irc.overview

Irc is not a straight forward plugin and download type of application. It provides a community structure where you can gain knowledge and make friends. This just happens to in most cases turn into a data transfer connections. This could be something as simple as two friends transferring a document which may be of particular interest to the channel topics. However it could be advanced as hundreds of irc bots driving multimedia applications out to the masses at tremendous transfer speeds. The world of p2p data transfer in irc usually in most instances turns out to be who you know not what you know.

The downside to irc is that you usually have to have direct contact with users to download content. While this may be useful for making friends online, you also have the possibility of meeting some very seedy characters who wish to use your machine as their own toy for personal gain. Irc although having a lot of nice communities it is also full of underworld communities where hackers explore galore to over take servers that they can use as bots to distribute illegal content. This is not meant to scare you form using irc, it is however better to make you aware of what may be lurking in the wrong types of channel.
