Back in April we reported the early leak of the work print for the feature movie “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. The issue made a return to headlines as the FBI has recently accused a man for allegedly uploading the film to p2p networks and being liable for the leak, CNET reports.

The suspect is 47-year-old Gilberto Sanchez, who risks three years in jail and a large fine if found guilty for uploading the movie to file-sharing network Megaupload.com under one of his online aliases, which include "theSkilled1" and "SkillyGilly."

"We're supportive of the FBI's actions," said a Fox spokeswoman. "We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials to identify and prosecute those who illegally steal our creative content."

The copy that had been downloaded 4.1 million times by the time “Wolverine” was released in theaters lacked some final special effects and retouching work.

While the movie industry is very ardent in claiming that such leaks cost it a fortune every time they occur, there are some other opinions according to which such leaks are actually beneficial with regard to ticket sales by arousing the public’s interest in a film before being released officially. P2PON also reported one month after the leak how the movie's official release didn't suffer at all from the leak as it topped the box office and cashed in $87 million within the opening weekend.

A 7:50 a.m. CNET update reveals new information from FBI that says that the suspect may not be source of the leak.
