The beginners choice

file sharing apps

When I say file sharing apps I mean applications like Limewire, Kazaa, Morpheus, eMule and the likes. These are the lowest in the file sharing chain and yet the simplest due to their user friendly interfaces and easy to grasp search engine style usage.

filesharingapps.overview

File sharing apps is a broad term, but it’s one I am using to describe all of the “other” applications out there. There are so many I could go on all day listing them, however they all have one thing in common, they are simple easy means to share files. They are most people’s starting points and a good way to initially learn about file sharing. If you learn anything out of using these applications it will be to understand the types of files you can get, see what other people are downloading and uploading and learn some of the terminology.

Not in every case, but in most cases this results in slow speeds, downloading unknown irrelevant files which can turn out to be a virus or spyware while being totally oblivious to it. I’m not a huge fan of these types of applications because I have seen many people resulting in repairing their computers and loosing data due to silly mistakes. I do hope that if anything we can show you how to use these programs safely and make the best out of them.

Now that I have scared you, I can explain why I even have a section dedicated to such apps. They are the heart of file sharing; more users use these applications than any other. The words like Limewire, Kazaa, Morpheus and Napster are phrases you will hear people talking about in passing. They are popular because they are easy to install and use and also have a lot of useful extra features, like the ability to chat to who you are downloading from.

What can you download from these applications? Well pretty much anything and everything. In most instances you select what you want to share on your computer and it will be shared with the rest of the applications network. This means that documents, photos, music and videos are usually all accessible. I would like to note that quite often this data can be copyright material and if caught downloading you can be prosecuted. So keep this in mind when you feel intrigued about the latest movie or mp3’s that you see.

That’s about all I have to say about these apps, now check out the guides if you are interested.
